"Final Farewell" would have been an appropriate title for this game. (2009-06-15)
A lot of things people don't seem to understand about this game is that, It wasn't meant to have better graphics then 8, it wasn't meant to be a huge step in the new direction that Final Fantasy was heading into. It was rather, a step backwards, paying homage to what made the Final Fantasy series great in the first place. They went back to the small bodies with oversize heads, cute looking characters, little villages and towns rather than the more futuristic aspects that 7 and 8 utilized. And if you paid close enough attention, you would have seen aspects and items from previous final fantasies thrown in as a "wink" to the true fans. Overall this game was immensely fun to play, it had an epic story. Heart wrenching at times, it had it all. The abilities system was very easy to understand, and it wasn't confusing at all. Once an ability was learned you could switch and change them at will when facing different types of enemies. The wide cast of playable characters (over ten characters!) You never got bored of your party as it was constantly changing. Kuja was an amazing villain (Which I personally think gives Sephiroth a run for his money.) and had no trouble using people and then simply disposing of them like a piece of garbage once they had served their purpose in his overall plan. The only thing I didn't like about the game was the card game served very little purpose (no purpose at all actually) and the whole trance thing could have been better. Many times, a character would trance at the very end of a battle and did nothing but frustrate me because certain characters trances are very valuable and destructive and it takes a long time for them to reach trance status. But I did like trance when the timing worked out for a character to trance just in time for a Boss battle. It was a good idea, I just think it could have been implemented a bit better. I loved the involvement of moogles in this game. They were everywhere kupo!. The mognet was a cute touch. Unnecessary but it added a little something extra to the game. Like I said before, I think many fans didn't like this game because they didn't quite understand what Squaresoft meant it to be. Not a revolutionary game, it was a simple farewell to their old style, and to give the fans one last adventure in the style that made Final Fantasy so great in the first place. They knew that once FFX came around, they wouldn't turn back. So I thank Squaresoft for this precious gift of Nostalgia that they gave us before moving into the next generation of RPG gaming.

Completely Underrated- (2009-06-14)
This game has received a lot of guff since it came out, but I think it's an amazing game, with many funny, poignant, dark, and otherwise highly enjoyable scenes, twists, and characters.

Last great Final Fantasy (2009-06-10)
For those that are looking to rekindle that feeling you get from old school playstation 1 rpg's, you need to add this one to your collection. This game was always looked over due to the commercial success of final fantasy 7 & 8, but I say please give this game a try.

One of the best games ever made? I think so. (2009-06-06)
Final Fantasy IX I recently bought this from Amazon, LLC, not from any third party. I got it in THREE days. and I ordered ground shipping. I got it the 5th and it was estimated to get here on the 10th. I think that THAT is good customer service.

I've played this game many, many, many times before. I bought it when they first released it for 19.99,again in 2002 for 24.99 and again this year for 14.99. I couldn't be more pleased with that. It's absurd for Final Fantasy 7 to cost a hundred or more dollars, it's not even the best one. But people who buy these games, such as my self, generally buy them for their memories not always for their stories, so it's pretty much what it's worth to you.

The game play is GREAT, it's returned to a more original Final Fantasy setting, and it even tells you on the back,'The Crystal Comes Back'. It brings back Garland as a Dark Ruler, Cid for the first time as a King... well Regent*ribbit*. Also, the airship design is Beautiful! The invincible looks like the Lunar Whale from Final Fantasy IV. Also, the creators introduced Active Time Events (ATE) which you can check at any moogle, and sometimes, they just pop up and you HAVE to do em.

The Battles are pretty much the same as always, You have Zidane who is a thief, Garnet(Dagger) as the Summoner, ViVi as a black mage, and Steiner as a Knight. You obtain a few more characters later on in the game but I don't want to spoil it for those who haven't played. You have pretty much the same summons/espers/contracts as before with a few more additions that haven't appeared as often, like Atomos which is a giant puffer fish thing that sucks up and entire city!

The story is set on the Mist continent for most of the game. You're Zidane, one of the 'actors' of Tantalus in the queens play. His goal is to kidnap Princess Garnet, why? you don't know yet. Upon entering the castle you see a woman in a hood, you can either make a move on her or let her go, it doesn't really matter, BUT it's Garnet. After a long escape scene you end up getting her to go along with you WILLINGLY. And you have to fight Steiner. And that's the gist of the beginning hook!

Money Not Wasted (2009-06-03)
This game is totally awesome, a classic as far as Final Fantasies go. I still think that besides FF7, this is the best one you can buy. Take it from a girl gamer.
