Everthing You Wanted To Learn About HDTV And DVD Technology

There has been an upsurge in a lot of HDTV and DVD technology to match it. Because of this HDTV-DVD just got more accessible and easier to find. This means that you will have more choices to choose from as well. But also because HDTV-DVD just got more accessible you may be confused with all the choices. A closer look at the different DVD options and technologies can help you choose from among them. Because HDTV-DVD just got more accessible, knowing what you have to choose from can make the accessibility less confusing.

First of all, originally DVD formats have been around for ten years. The original kind also gave a lot more storage, up to 4.7 GB than most CD's, which are around 700MB. Not too long after this original technology, there came some more technology that made space increase. This was the advent of double-sided DVD's. Some general information regarding some double-layered discs is as follows: single-sided and layered ones with 4.7 GB and 120 minutes of space, single-sided and dual-layered ones with 8.5GB with 4 hours of space, double-sided and single-layered ones with 9.4GB and 4 hours of space and double-sided and dual-layered ones with 17GB and 8 hours of space.

Most DVD's are read-write mediums although there are some that are read-only. There are three different kinds. They are known as DVD-R, DVD-RW and DVD-RAM. All of these can be used to record with. Understanding these basics can give you a lot towards understanding the wide variety of accessibility that is out there in DVD options. Especially when you are trying to understand that HDTV-DVD just got more accessible.

The first option is DVD-RAM and can actually be the most expensive kind. Yet this type can be re-written over and over again. Usually up to 100,000 times over a number of years even. This type is the one that would be more desired for video or film editing. The reason for this is because the disc stores data in no particular order. You must make extra careful however that the type of player you are getting or have will work with this type. This is because not all players are compatible with this type of DVD.

Another kind of DVD is the DVD-R type of disc. This is actually the cheaper option when it comes to recordable DVD's. This type can only be recorded on once though. This is why this type tends to be cheaper however. This type of DVD is also compatible with most DVD players that are available out there on the market.

The main difference between the last type, DVD-RW and DVD-RAM is how many times it can be recorded on. The DVD-RW can be recorded on more than once. But it can only be recorded on about a thousand times. Which is a lot less than the DVD-RAM, but this type is cheaper than the DVD-RAM. This is best for those who want multiple recording capabilities but don't need too much and want to save money.

The reason that HDTV-DVD just got more accessible is because there are two new types that have become available recently. The two new types or formats are HD-DVD and Blu-Ray. Toshiba and the second kind by Sony develop the first one. They are very common but cannot play each other's players. HD-DVD can store 15GB on single-layer and 30GB on dual-layer, while Blu-Ray stores 25GB on single-layer and 50GB on dual-layer. HD-DVD can hold 8 hours of space and Blu-Ray 9 hours.

As you can see with so many options now available you see how HDTV-DVD just got more accessible. Hopefully this information will make it easier to understand, even if HDTV-DVD just got more accessible. With the different types more clearly explained your decision should be easier now.

Review Family Guy, Vol. 1 (Seasons 1 & 2)

Family Guy, Vol. 1 (Seasons 1 & 2) Best Review

There are two reviews here: One for the old Boxed Set. One for the new Slim Set.

BOXED SET:
This box set comes with the first two seasons of Family Guy. The front cover shows the Griffin Family together having a fun time. The back cover shows and alternate Stewie photo and a description of the Volume One boxed set with bonus material and such. Inside there three thin plasitc cases for the discs. The front of each case has the main cover photo of the griffins on a different colored background. The backside of the cases have Episode Descriptions and what features are on the disc. Each disc has different artowork with different characters on them.

SLIM SET (you get this if ordered from Amazon now):
This slim set comes with the first two seasons of Family Guy, just like the original. The front and back cover's artwork is unchanged. However, the inside is much different. The inside has no episode descriptions. Just the disc number and episode title. There is little to no artwork inside. The discs artwork is the exact same, though.

FINAL THOUGHTS:
If you would prefer to get the boxed set with artwork and such go for it. But order it from another site. Amazon only ships the slim sets now. If you don't mind. Go for the slim set. The outer appearence is still nice overall.

Thanks for reading.

Family Guy, Vol. 1 (Seasons 1 & 2) Overview

Meet the Griffins: Peter, the big, lovable oaf who always says what’s on his mind. Lois, the doting mother who can’t figure out why her baby son keeps trying to kill her. Their daughter Meg, the teen drama queen who’s constantly embarrassed by her family. Chris, the beefy 13-year-old who wouldn’t hurt a fly, unless it landed on his hot dog. Stewie, the maniacal one-year-old bent on world domination. And Brian, the sarcastic dog with a wit as dry as the martinis he drinks. The animated adventures of his outrageous family will have your whole family laughing out loud.

Family Guy, Vol. 1 (Seasons 1 & 2) Specifications

To the ranks of shows too brilliant and outrageous for prime time (The Ben Stiller Show, Andy Richter Controls the Universe), add Seth McFarlane's Family Guy. This animated series, which debuted after the 1999 Super Bowl, simply sparked too much controversy and offended too many sensibilities to survive (Entertainment Weekly dubbed it "the Awful Show They Just Keep Putting on the Air"). That the Fox network also played hackysack with its schedule, ensuring viewers would not be able to find it, sealed its fate (it was cancelled in 2002). This boxed set containing all 28 episodes from the first two seasons is payback for the show's devoted cult following, who may be moved to echo the words of infant Stewie Griffin, the megalomaniacal 1-year-old bent on matricide and world domination: "Victory is mine!"

The dysfunctional Griffins of Quahog, Rhode Island, invite comparisons to The Simpsons. The testicular-chinned father, Peter Griffin, is a clueless oaf in the Homer mold. "Peter, what did you promise me last night?" asks his long-suffering wife Lois in one episode. "That I wouldn't drink at the stag party," he replies. "And what did you do?" she asks. "Drank at the stag part--oh ho ho, I almost walked into that one," he cackles. Other family members include teenage daughter Meg, a desperate high school social pariah; 13-year-old son Chris, a chip off his father's blockhead; and Brian, the family's sarcastic talking dog. But this series' true inspiration is football-pated Stewie (voiced by McFarlane, who earned an Emmy), who was born to be a Bond villain once he escaped his mother's "ovarian bastille." Family Guy recklessly ventured where The Simpsons feared to tread. In one episode, Meg's one and only friend turns out to be the member of a suicidal cult. In another, Death (voiced by Norm McDonald) becomes an unwanted houseguest. Each episode plays fast and furious with surreal flashes (in one episode, Peter turns his house into a puppet) and pop-culture references and TV, movie, and commercial parodies that invite repeated viewings. Freed from its own family-hour bastille and the whims of dim network executives, Family Guy can be appreciated at last on its own profane, sacrilegious, and irreverent terms. Welcome to the DVD family, Griffins. --Donald Liebenson

Seth McFarlane? More like Puke McRipofferton - Tough Guy -
Hey Stewie, Jimmy Corrigan (smartest kid on Earth)called, he wants his face back. I started watching Family Guy several years ago until I realized how much random pop culture references that in no way had relevance to the plot were unfunny. Here's a setup scene

Brian: "Hey Peter, it's hot outside"
Peter: "Hot like the time I played darts with Ghost Rider and Don King was there?"

Plus my DVD player broke when I vomited all over it after 12 minutes of this tripe.

Family Guy Vol.1 & 2 - Wiggy -
Good video. Have only been watching Family Guy for a short while.
Good to see the beginning of when the show started.

Where it all begins... - jlawler - Maine
Some of the funniest animation ever put on television. Althought the series is pretty lack-luster now, the first two season were ground breaking, smart, and constant laughs.

Review Cranford: The Collection (Cranford / Return to Cranford)

Cranford: The Collection (Cranford / Return to Cranford) Best Review

What is so satisfying about British productions of 19th century authors is that there is inevitably an ensemble cast of outstanding actors. They all work together from minor to major roles without letting ego or grandstanding overwhelm the story.

Cranford and Return to Cranford (RTC) is enjoyable not only for it's acting, but for it's excellent writing. The adaptation of Elizabeth Gaskell's novel about a small village with little outside influence, and it's growing pains when old ways begin to change, specifically when faced with the development of the railroad, is consistent and true to the story.

As expected for this period, the class system based on the remnants of the feudal system is ever present between the relationships of the townspeople and the aristocrats. Propriety, appearances, and societal rules forever rule the lives of the 19th century Briton. Cranford/RTC will draw you in and immerse you in the conflicts, misunderstandings, and joys of its characters.

To quote the Bard of Avon, "All's well that ends well", and it will be so in Cranford.

Cranford: The Collection (Cranford / Return to Cranford) Overview

Cranford: The BBC drama series adapted from Mary Gaskell's classic novels of small town gossip, secrets and romance. 1842. Cranford, a market town in the North West of England, is a place governed by etiquette, custom and above all, an intricate network of ladies. It seems that life has always been conducted according to their social rules, but Cranford is on the cusp of change… For spinsters Deborah Jenkyns, the arbiter of correctness in Cranford, and Matty, her demurring sister, the town is a hub of intrigue - a handsome new doctor Frank Harrison from London has arrived; a retired Captain and his daughters have moved in to a house opposite and the preparations for Lady Ludlow's garden party are underway. Everyone - from charming rogue Dr Marshland to mean Mrs Jamieson and her lap dog talks, and is talked about, behind closed doors. The town also has its secrets which it slowly reveals: Matty's encounter with an old flame at the garden party; Lady Ludlow's gardener, Mr Carter, teaching a gypsy lad to read and write; the wild expectations of the May Day celebrations and - news that shakes the town when it is revealed - a railway line from Manchester is coming to Cranford.

Return to Cranford: Welcome to Cranford, where all changes and all remains the same. Miss Matty's house is full of life and bustle. Her dream of having a child in the house has been realised in the birth of Tilly, daughter of her maid Martha and carpenter Jem. The shadow of the railway still looms but, to the relief of Matty and the Amazons, the line has been halted five miles outside of Cranford because of Lady Ludlow's refusal to sell her land. Elsewhere Miss Matty's friend Mr Buxton returns to town with his son, William, and his niece, Erminia. Miss Matty decides to introduce them to Peggy Bell, a young woman who lives in an isolated cottage with her mother and domineering brother, Edward, in the hope of building friendships. But, when tragedy strikes, she comes to believe that she has opened Pandora's box and fears Cranford will never recover.

Cranford: The Collection (Cranford / Return to Cranford) Specifications

Adapted from Elizabeth Gaskell's novels, the five-episode miniseries Cranford focuses on female characters in the 19th-century British town to thematically contemplate encroaching modernity in rural England. With the camera roving house to house, each drama within the grander story is constructed of scenes featuring dialogue between several gossipy ladies obsessed with moral code, romantic ideas about courtship, and social occasions. Three main characters, the ever-appropriate Deborah Jenkyns (Eileen Atkins), her sweet sister, Matilda (Judi Dench), and their younger, more savvy relative, Miss Smith (Lisa Dillon), continuously weigh in on situations, providing a dependable view when other ladies, like the nosey Miss Pole (Imelda Staunton) are too judgmental. In fine period dress, the women of Cranford remind the viewer of how little action was needed in their small-town lives to provide unceasing entertainment. The series'most intriguing aspect lies not in the ample female conversation but rather in its display of earlier technologies and ways of life. Part One, for example, quickly launches a main narrative thread that runs throughout the series, namely the arrival and assimilation of London doctor, Frank Harrison (Simon Woods), into village society. Dr. Harrison's medical practices, such as his refusal to amputate a man's arm because it's broken, are all the more radical because they are so fundamental by today's standards. In subsequent episodes, he recommends Miss Smith get spectacles to cure her headaches, and saves his love's life by cooling her fever after conservative doctor, Dr. Morgan (John Bowe), recommends the old school practice of burying her in blankets in front of a raging fire. In Part Two, Lady Ludlow (Francesca Annis) throws a garden party at her estate, treating all the women in their fancy hats to a new novelty: ice cream. This scene foreshadows Ludlow's future concern at a railroad plan involving her land that would connect Cranford to Manchester, symbolizing the ruin of this idyllic setting. In fact, fluffy and clever as some scenes are, death and rebirth assert themselves in each showing, both physically and idealistically. Part Four shows an auctioning off of a deceased man's antiques, and focuses on issues of class and women's education, as Mr. Carter teaches a peasant boy to read while his assistant fumes at her trappings as a seamstress. Part Five ushers in a new period of medical emergencies, securing Dr. Harrison's shaky position in town. In total, Cranford offers a powerful, if sentimental, look at how death begets life, love, and passion. --Trinie Dalton

The two-part saga Return to Cranford opens to a struggling Cranford, a traditional English village that in autumn 1844 is airing the conflicts that accompany progress. Miss Matty Jenkyns (Judi Dench), after having closed her business in the last series, is happily babysitting the child of her maid, Martha (Claudie Blakley). This gives the ladies in town something to gossip about, as does every other small event in this chatty group. The same women populate this new Cranford--the snooty Miss Jamieson (Barbara Flynn), nosy Miss Pole (Imelda Staunton), Miss Forrester (Julia McKenzie), Peggy (Jodie Whittaker), and Erminia (Michelle Dockery)--while a few new men added into the mix creates options for love interests throughout. In Part One, Peggy, visiting her dead father's grave, bumps into William Baxton (Tom Hiddleston), a young and dapper gentleman who becomes a central character in Cranford's growing divide between those who want a railroad coming through town and those who don't. While politics are sorted, scenes alternate between heated public debates and intimate domestic exchanges to make Return to Cranford as charming as the first incarnations of this historical drama. The emphasis on the ways the women in town navigate thorny social situations remains primary in Return to Cranford. Babies are born and the elderly pass away while the ladies busily decide what to make of it all. While Part One focuses on catch-up, showing where each crone stands on the latest current events, Part Two attempts more to challenge outmoded cultural values such as elitism and to show how the community members toughen up to become a courageous bunch. Unfortunately, Miss Matty discovers that solidarity is hard to come by in this small village, and Part Two is as much about a town falling apart as it is about ways to heal sore feelings and a violated landscape. Ultimately, life marches on in this pleasurably fictionalized glimpse into England's past. --Trinie Dalton

Classic English Drama at it's best - John -
One of the most charming and engaging period dramas I've seen. Explores the changes in Victorian society with perhaps some parallels to today's changing world, in a very BBC feel good way (but I mean that in the best possible sense). If you like period dramas you will be 100% happy with this one. Highly recommended.

Delightful English Period Piece - CrackofDawn -
One of my favorite English period pieces. Witty, light-hearted, yet poignant drama. This is a story of enduring friendship among a group of neighborhood women. A "Steel Magnolias" set in 19th century Britian. Wonderfully acted.

Cranford/eturn to Cranford - Norma Barnes - Milwaukee,WI

There should be more written as well as this - - and how could it fail with such an all-star cast??? Judi Dench is one star you can always count on to be in an enjoyable movie or TV ..

DVD Encoders

You may need a DVD encoder more than you think you do. This s because DVD encoders can create burning-ready DVD video files from virtually any format -AVI, WMV, ASF, or MPEG. Newer versions of DVD encoders allow you to encode practically any playable movie to a DVD.

What is a DVD encoder?

Just like all other encoders, a DVD encoder compresses very large video and audio files, so that it fits in a DVD. Most DVD encoders automatically set up your video files and slideshows for Video CD, Super Video CD or DVD. Most operate using a variable bit rate encoder. This means that the DVD encoder can adjust the encoding settings as required, so that you can squeeze in as many files on the disc as possible. Remember that the quality of encoded DVDs is directly correlated to the duration of the video or audio file you want to burn into the disc. The smaller the file size, the higher the overall quality.

How do I choose a DVD encoder?

One of the most important features of a DVD recorder is its user-friendliness. You should be able to easily drag and drop images, videos and audio files from your hard disk. It should also make transferring from a digital video camcorder easy. You should also be able to add additional content to the disc, like texts or html pages that be read by any computer.

Be sure to shop around before zooming in on a DVD recorder. Compare specifications and prices. It's also a good idea to read user reviews about different brands on the Internet. Invest only in DVD encoders that get the thumbs up not only from digital video experts but average end-users as well. Some computer systems come with built-in DVD encoders. Ask your computer manufacturer or dealer for options available to you.

Encoders provides detailed information on Encoders, MP3 Encoders, Mpeg Encoders, DVD Encoders and more. Encoders is affiliated with P2P Applications [http://www.P2P-Web.com].

Review Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (Full-Screen Edition)

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (Full-Screen Edition) Best Review

The first problem may be either a problem with the blu ray format or a problem with my laptop or a combination of both. I don't know. The sound on a blu ray disc on my laptop seems to be so low on every one I tried that I usually have to turn the subtitles on to understand all the words. I have all the sound turned all the way up. Every other sound is great on my machine except the blu ray movie sound. Second, and it may not be a real problem, this movie ended rather anticlimactically. It felt like "OK, it's over, "insert the final minute of what is seen" and then "boom" with no closure. I assume, being one of the few people that never read the books, that that will not be a problem because whatever is happening as it ends will make sense after the final two movies. I really enjoyed the look and feel of the movie itself. Everything aside from these two problems was lovely about the movie. I really get a kick out of seeing Bellatrix looking like a Victorian bag lady on meth.

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (Full-Screen Edition) Specifications

The sixth installment of the Harry Potter series begins right where The Order of the Phoenix left off. The wizarding world is rocked by the news that "He Who Must Not Be Named" has truly returned, and the audience finally knows that Harry is "the Chosen One"--the only wizard who can defeat Lord Voldemort in the end. Dark forces loom around every corner, and now regularly attempt to penetrate the protected walls of Hogwarts School. This is no longer the fun and fascinating world of magic from the first few books—it's dark, dangerous, and scary.

Harry (Daniel Radcliffe) suspects Draco Malfoy (Tom Felton) to be a new Death Eater recruit on a special mission for the Dark Lord. In the meantime, Professor Dumbledore (Michael Gambon) seems to have finally removed the shroud of secrecy from Harry about the dark path that lies ahead, and instead provides private lessons to get him prepared. It's in these intriguing scenes that the dark past of Tom Riddle (a.k.a. Voldemort) is finally revealed. The actors cast as the different young versions of Riddle (Hero Fiennes-Tiffin and Frank Dillane) do an eerily fantastic job of portraying the villain as a child. While the previous movies' many new characters could be slightly overwhelming, only one new key character is introduced this time: Professor Horace Slughorn (with a spot-on performance by Jim Broadbent). Within his mind he holds a key secret in the battle to defeat the Dark Lord, and Harry is tasked by Dumbledore to uncover a memory about Voldemort's darkest weapon--the Horcrux. Despite the long list of distractions, Harry, Ron (Rupert Grint), and Hermione (Emma Watson) still try to focus on being teenagers, and audiences will enjoy the budding awkward romances. All of the actors have developed nicely, giving their most convincing performances to date.

More dramatic and significant things go down in this movie than any of its predecessors, and the stakes are higher than ever. The creators have been tasked with a practically impossible challenge, as fans of the beloved J.K. Rowling book series desperately want the movies to capture the magic of the books as closely as possible. Alas, the point at which one accepts that these two mediums are very different is the point at which one can truly enjoy these brilliant adaptations. Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince is no exception: it may be the best film yet. For those who have not read the book, nail-biting entertainment is guaranteed. For those who have, the movie does it justice. The key dramatic scenes, including the cave and the shocking twist in the final chapter, are executed very well. It does a perfect job of setting up the two-part grand finale that is to follow. --Jordan Thompson

Where to Find Blue Ray DVD Software for Burning

There are many different components that can be purchased for Blue Ray media, and this includes Blue Ray DVD software for burning. There are actually quite a few different companies that one can go through if they are looking for Blue Ray DVD software for burning, and a few of the best will be discussed in more detail here.

The Top Companies

One of the best places to check out for Blue Ray DVD software for burning is the Burn World Company. They offer a variety of DVD software as well besides the Blue Ray DVD software for burning, and this includes DVD copy software, PowerPoint to DVD, DVD photo software, DVD audio software, DVD authoring software DVD burning software, DVD player software, and video to DVD converter.

PC World is another great company one can go through for Blue Ray DVD software for burning. They are actually recognized as being the most widely read computer or business magazine both online and offline. They presently have a readership of over 4.8 million people, and they are recognized for being one of the Web's most trusted resources for management level buyers and users of technology products.

Yet another great company that one can check out for Blue Ray DVD software for burning is Sonic Solutions. They are a company which enables the creation and management of digital media content in all its forms. They have a few different groups, including the Consumer Products Group, Professional Products Group, and the Advanced Technology Group.

The Advantages

There are many advantages that the Blue Ray technology holds over others. For one, because it uses a blue laser as opposed to a red which the others do, the data stored on the media device is then able to be read much quicker and in turn the quality one is viewing is increased significantly.

There is also the advantage of content, as the Blue Ray media is able to hold a great deal more content than others so more special features can be held for instance. In particular one of the greatest benefits of Blue Ray is that because the data is stored so close together, scratches that may get on the discs will not cause so many problems, because a new coating has been developed which results in making the discs extremely difficult to scratch.

There are many other benefits as well brought by this Blue Ray technology and which will no doubt be a determining factor in one switching to Blue Ray.

Are The New Remakes Of The Old Classic Movies Really Worth Seeing?

There have been many classic movies remade years later, some are good and some are not. It depends on the how the story is interpreted. In the early movies sex and violence are hardly ever shown they are implied. In the newer versions they don't hold back anything. This might be what is appealing to the new audiences. They have seen the classic and want to see the actual murder or love scene between two characters.

In the newer versions of movies they have been able to take special effects to a whole new level. Sometimes this isn't always good. In the 1960's series of Batman, the cheesiness of the show was the best part. Batman always had whatever they needed to escape or apprehend the bad guy. For example, he would say "good thing I put this vial of shark repellent in my bat belt this morning". Never has anyone been better prepared for anything since the old Batman shows. In the remakes they took him to a whole new level making everything very slick and futuristic. They took out the innocence, the heart and soul of why we loved it so much as children.

Another example of a remake gone badly is Godzilla. The reason everyone loved the old Godzilla movies is because you could tell it was a man in a monster suit crushing a cardboard Tokyo. Half the fun of watching these movies was to see how fake many things were and try to find the wires swinging the monsters around. In the recent version, they made Godzilla the bad guy. This turned the character into something else. Even in a remake the basic personality of a character shouldn't be changed. In the old movies he was the protector even if he destroyed everything he was trying to protect.

But there are great remakes of mediocre classic movies. For example, the movie Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, starring Gene Wilder, this movie was based on a book and for anyone who loved the book the original classic movie was a disappointment. But in the updated version, starring Johnny Depp, they stayed very close to what the author of the story was trying to convey. Making the new release an instant classic.

Then there is the comic remake of the classics. Often a writer will take the best parts of a particular genre and combine them into a comic spoof, these movies have formed a genre all their own. Mel Brooks is a master with this type of remake. For example, Blazing Saddles pokes fun of the old westerns and makes a statement about racism. Another classic remake was Young Frankenstein, based on the old Frankenstein movies.

Review Shortbus (Unrated Edition)

Shortbus (Unrated Edition) Best Review

I liked very much Hedwig, but it was one of that movie you need to see more than one time to understand. Shortbus, it could be strange, is more simple: it shows various relationships and way of loving (one of my favorite character is the stalker). Obviously my heart goes to James, even if I don't think Jamie is the right man for him... but sometime being loved is enough. Wonderful titles (I don't know the term in English, it's the opening scene, when the cast and crew are listed).

Shortbus (Unrated Edition) Overview

From the director of ‘Hedwig and the Angry Inch’ comes SHORTBUS, an exploration into the lives of several characters living in present-day New York as they navigate the comic and tragic intersections between love and sex. Male and female, straight and gay, the characters find one another – and eventually find themselves – when they all converge at a weekly underground salon called "Shortbus," a mad world of art, music, politics, and polysexual carnality. One of the true sensations of this year’s Cannes Film Festival, presents sex and sexuality as never before seen in mainstream entertainment, and promises to be one of the most talked-about films for months – and years – to come.

Shortbus (Unrated Edition) Specifications

In his aim to make an honest film about sex, John Cameron Mitchell (Hedwig and the Angry Inch) has taken a somewhat documentary approach to Shortbus, a film describing various New Yorkers' sexual pathos. Framed by shots roving a homemade diorama of the city, Shortbus is comprised of vignettes featuring actors who helped craft this story of people's disconnect in sexual endeavors. Jamie (PJ DeBoy) and James (Paul Dawson), a gay couple experiencing a lull in their relationship, visit Sophia (Sook-Yin Lee), a sex therapist whose inability to orgasm results in her clients inviting her to a sex club after which the film is titled. Sophia's husband, Rob (Raphael Barker), is also willing to experiment, so the two independently embark on adventures in self-pleasure. Dominatrix Severin (Lindsay Beamish) plays a crucial role in Sophia and Rob's lives, as her search for real humanity overlaps with their desire for passion. As each character's plot complicates, the viewer sees a similar melancholy bulldozing its way into these seemingly disparate lives. The depression is repeatedly used in comedic scenes, such as when James is asked on a date while still hospitalized for his attempted suicide. Yo La Tengo's score, which includes Animal Collective among others, lends this film a graceful ambience. Unlike porn, Shortbus has a resonance that encourages the viewer to consider one's own sex life as an important aspect of happiness. --Trinie Dalton

Shortbus is average - R.S.G - Waialua, HI. USA
Short Bus is a interesting movie that involves a lot of sexual energy. It kind of reminds me of state of total sexual confusion and indecision. I must say that the movie has its highlights as far as frontal nudity and sexual escapades. I kind of felt a little loss for any major thought on it. In some words, this movie shows what a state of sexual confusion can mean to some People. Pleasantly ok with the movie. But is about average. Reminds me a lot of a "B" movie.

If you like nudity, confusion and drama, this movie has all of it. Over all I give it three stars because I enjoyed the movie, but still felt it lacked a strong storyline.

Shortbus - Harold Hart - alameda ca
was not porn - just a good indie type film with a twist, enjoyed it, it reminded me of Chain Of Desire which is a great film which it was a little more on the traditional side, where Shortbus went out side the box, I hope for more films like this.

Review The Gathering (2 Disc Edition)

The Gathering (2 Disc Edition) Best Review

I finally found a dvd copy on [...] (thanks to a review on [...]) and am so happy I could cry - again, as I've just watched the movie and am still crying as per usual after a viewing. The site includes a copy of the far inferior The Gathering, Part Two - but it's free so what are you gonna do? True, it's not of the highest quality but it's got no problems that I can see, it was only $[...], and they have free shipping. I strongly recommend the site to all those who, like me, fell in love with this movie all those years ago and have been dying for a good dvd copy of their own.

Two Christmases hence, Kate runs Thornton Industries and is wooed by a courtly financier (Efrem Zimbalist, Jr.) in The Gathering Part II (Disc 2). Kate's children fear he's more interested in the business than in Kate herself. Or has the season brought Kate the magic of romance? Excellent heartwarming Christmas tale in picturesque town. - Dr. Katherine A. Collins - Wauwatosa, WI
This movie, filmed in February, 1978 in Chagrin Falls, Ohio is a heartwarming tale of a family facing the crisis of terminal illness. The meaningful story, as well as the picturesque festive holiday setting, are worth viewing time and again.

A classic along with the original Miracle on 34th Street and It's a Wonderful Life - K. MCKINNEY - Dallas, TX USA
I have waited for this movie to be offered on DVD for too many years to remember. I watched it every year. Then for no obvious reason to me, they quit airing it, and I was very disappointed. The 2010 Christmas season and many more in the future will now be complete.

This Televsion movie which I believe was one of the best shows I ever saw and still think of every year is available, I have two of them. The 1977 one which also makes me old as so many years have passed since I last saw it. It is rare and hard to find but I keep looking! I still love it It is about a Father who is dying trying to find a way to mae amends for his past neglect of his family and learning about himself. All at Christmas time of course. It was real in that it showed the anger and the slow healing of a family and a man who had to look deep into himself!

Review Mad About You: The Complete Fourth Season

Mad About You: The Complete Fourth Season Best Review

Took a while but finally, season 4 is released. The 3 "Must See TV" shows for me back in the mid 90's were Mad About You, Friends and Seinfeld. Although the least popular of the trio, I felt a strong affinity toward Mad About You mostly due to the fact what red blooded male didn't want Helen Hunt as his wife back then? Although the entire collection of Seinfeld and Friends were quickly released, Mad About You lagged behind, presumably due to poor sales. Season 3 lagged behind Season 2 and Season 4 lagged behind Season 3. But it was with great relief that I found out that Season 4 was being released thus I can finally throw out my worn out original VHS copies.

To me, season 2 through 4 were the best which is why I was anxious to get it. Season 5 was good but once the baby was born, lost a little bit of luster for me. Both Paul and Jamie are neurotic in their own complementry way. Paul's wishy washy quality countered by Jamie's quick, sharp wit made for some fine comedy. Although one of the charms of this series was that the two were not perfect (although perfect for one another), in this season, as doubts about their relationship and future appear, the you-know-what really hits the fan.

Mad About You: The Complete Fourth Season Overview

Paul Reiser and Helen Hunt return with Emmy-winning performances in the very pivotal fourth season of Mad About You.

While Paul (Reiser) has found a job as a full-time documentary filmmaker at the Explorer Channel, Jamie (Hunt) has opened a new PR firm with her longtime friend Fran (Leila Kenzle). It is a busy time in the Buchmans lives, and things are about to get crazier when they plan to start a family. Despite a series of frustrating false alarms, the couple are determined to do whatever it takes to conceive: including virtually nonstop sex and malodorous herbal remedies! The obstacles don t stop there as they face everything from Pauls sudden unemployment to their respective brushes with marital infidelity, and as the pressure on their marriage increases, their relationship begins to unravel.

Sophisticated, sharp and incisively funny, Season Four won an Emmy for Outstanding Comedy Series. Guest stars include Yoko Ono, Laugh-Ins Arte Johnson and Hank Azaria. All 24 Season Four Episodes.

Mad About You: The Complete Fourth Season Specifications

In the fourth season of Mad About You, which originally aired on NBC during 1995-1996, Paul (Paul Reiser) and Jamie (Helen Hunt) Buchman deal with issues that could potentially break up their marriage. As they start planning a family, they are faced with infertility. When both decide to shake up their careers, one of them loses their job. And then there is the possibility of infidelity, when both Jamie and Paul are tempted outside of marriage. In a testament to the writers' sharp scripts and adroit acting by the leads, Mad About You manages to find humor during some bleak scenarios. Like many couples who find themselves unable to get pregnant, the Buchmans at first are incredulous that they can't easily finagle a pregnancy. There's a not completely original, but still funny, episode revolving around Paul having to produce a specimen on demand, which isn't helped any by his behemoth of a nurse (played by Everybody Loves Raymond's Brad Garrett). At one point, Paul asks his cousin Ira (the delightful John Pankow) if he realizes that the Buchman dynasty could end if neither of them has children: "If we don't produce an heir, it's all over." Looking at his cousin, Ira quips, "If you and me are it… then it deserves to be over."

Some critics have harped that listening to the Buchmans bicker has grown old by now. But the beauty of the show has always been in the way the two argue. Quick-tongued and witty, they wield their words like razor-sharp knives, reminding viewers of the song "You Always Hurt the One You Love." But it's their quiet truisms than can break your heart. When Jamie tells her husband, "It's not working," viewers are left holding their breath and urging the couple on to make it work. And in the three-part season finale, Paul and Jamie have some major issues to work out. Other story arcs include Paul's sister Debbie coming out as a lesbian. Their mother is shocked but takes some solace in the fact that Debbie's lover is a doctor. Ira begins gambling again and handles it better than Paul. And Jamie's neurotic and self-centered sister finally gets engaged. Guest stars include Yoko Ono, Arte Johnson, and Hank Azaria, who appears as a semi-regular as the Buchmans' dog walker. All 24 episodes are included on the four-disc set. --Jae-Ha Kim

A Gem Of A Show - Geoffrey F. Arnold - Hillsboro, Oregon USA
At last, Season Four is released. This season was a turning point in the show and the laughter slowly gives way to the seriousness of relationship troubles as this season draws to a close.

Much could be said about the last three episodes of the fourth season. Suffice it to say, these three shows, a trilogy story arc within the greater arc of the series, really bring home the reality of marriage - the side you never see in most series, let alone a sit-com. But, as we all know, this was more than just another sit-com. As M*A*S*H became more than a series of setups, prat falls and yuks featuring doctors at war, MAY demonstrates the depth and range of the actors, giving them dialogue that was about as close to "real" as you can get during the park bench scene. Chilling stuff.

And with Season Five slated for a late 2010 release, it appears the powers that be are beginning to hear our cries for getting on with finishing the release of the remaining seasons. Let's hope seasons six and seven won't be another two to three years in the offing.

I love this set. It has bonus features! - Eduardo Nolazco - Lima, Peru
OK. It was shipped so fast (and I live in Peru).
First surprise: 2 plastic cases. 2 discs in each case. So my new Mad About You discs are safe
Second surprise: Introduction by Paul Reiser and Helen Hunt on "Yoko Said", "The Finale (part 1)", "The Finale (part 2)" and "The Finale (part 3)"
Third surprise: "Mad About the Theme" (04:09) and "TV Spots" (06:16) on disc 4.
OK, I think all of these bonus features were on the "Mad About You Collection" but i didn't buy it (I refuse to do that) so now I hope every single extra is on the next DVD sets.
One little downside: no subtitles. I already accepted there is no other audio track (there was a spanish track in the first DVD sets) but they must add english subtitle (spanish subtitle would be better).
I am waiting for next seasons! They already announced season 5 on DVD.

Mad About You Season 4 - Brian C. Silva - Salinas, CA United States
Love It! They just don't make tv shows like this anymore. Brought back a lot of memories and good laughs.

True to life and laugh-out-loud funny! - Joanna Mechlinski - CT, USA
The long-awaited release of this season brings us Paul and Jamie's attempt to expand their family. Of course, as is typical for the Buchmans, any project comes with some element of disaster and hilarity, and this is no exception.

Particularly memorable episodes include "Yoko Said," where Paul has the chance to work on a documentary with Yoko Ono (Ono guest stars); "An Angel for Murray," where dogwalker Nat (Hank Azaria) is first introduced; and "New Year's Eve," where Paul and Jamie deal with being apart for the holiday for the first time since they became a couple.

Fans of this classic comedy about daily life in '90s New York will not be disappointed.

Benefits of Video Email

Although video email has yet to take off on a worldwide basis, it is safe to say that this day is coming. After all, everybody loves to use videos when they can. Don't you agree that sending a video email could offer many benefits over simple words? The fact of the matter is that while video email is not hot with everybody right now, once it starts to spread it will catch on big time. All in all, there are too many benefits for video email to lag behind for much longer.

So what are the benefits of video email, you may ask? Here are three that you will definitely come in contact with the second that you begin to use video email on a regular basis.

1. When you send video emails the recipient is going to have a much easier time understanding you. After all, a video email is just like sitting across the table from somebody. While they cannot respond to you in real time, guess what? They can simply make another video of their own and email it back to you.

2. For many people, typing emails is not always fun. In fact, for those people who do not like to write or type it can be downright annoying. This is where video email can really pick up the slack. Instead of having to write each email out and then proofread it, you can instead say what you want and then send a video with one click of the mouse. This is a great benefit no matter who you are. The convenience factor is definitely something that you should take into consideration.

3. Getting started with video email is not as hard as you may think. The main reason that many people do not use video email is because they think it is too far advanced for them to figure out. But when it comes down to it this is not the truth. To get started with video email you need two things. First off, you need an email account. Luckily, you can register one of these for free. Additionally, you need to buy a webcam. This will allow you to shoot your video emails, and in turn send them directly from your pc. It is very easy to use a webcam, and once you send a couple videos you will be surprised at just how much you learn.

All in all, the benefits of video email are well varied. The three above are the ones you are sure to encounter early on, but as you send more and more video emails you will become aware of many other benefits. This way of communicating is definitely the wave of the future.
