Fracture (Widescreen Edition) Overview

Academy Award® winner Anthony Hopkins and Academy Award® nominee Ryan Gosling are brilliant in this "exceptionally suspenseful nail-biter" (Rex Reed) that's so smart it "doesn't let go, even after the final twist" (Gene Shalit, "Today"). Ted Crawford (Hopkins) brutally murders his wife and calmly waits for the police to arrest him. With the weapon and a signed confession in hand, Deputy D.A., Willy Beachum (Gosling), believes a conviction is a slam dunk; that is until the case completely unravels. Now, with little evidence, Beachum goes head to head with the cunning Mr. Crawford in a desperate search for the truth and the answer to one burning question: How is this guy getting away with murder?

Fracture (Widescreen Edition) Specifications

Anthony Hopkins plays a brilliant, pathologically serene killer outwitting the good guys at every turn and taking a shine to a twentysomething law enforcer who can’t conceal a rural accent and rugged origins. Could it be...? No, not The Silence of the Lambs, but an original mystery, Fracture, which plays a little like Lambs as an episode of Columbo, minus Columbo. Which means the film tells us from the get-go that Hopkins’ character, a wealthy engineer, shoots his philandering wife (Embeth Davidtz) and leaves her in a vegetative state. From there, it should be a simple matter for young, assistant District Attorney Willy Beachum (Ryan Gosling) to nail Crawford, who provides a full confession and even eschews counsel. That’s good for Beachum, a slick winner with a vague background of deprivation, rapidly on his way out of public service after attracting the attention of a deep-pocket, private firm. What he doesn’t know, however, is that Crawford has masterminded more than vengeance against his wife, and that the state’s case against him is full of pre-arranged holes and a huge time-bomb that will send Beachum scrambling to keep the pieces together.

The story, conceived and co-scripted by Daniel Pyne (Doc Hollywood), goes down easily with a minimum of blood and violence, and should easily appeal to mystery buffs as well as old fans of Hopkins and new admirers of Oscar nominee Gosling (Half Nelson). The latter holds his own in multiple, two-character scenes with the masterful portrayer of Hannibal Lecter, pacing Beachum’s reactions to Crawford’s polite provocations so everything spills onto his youthful face: torn loyalties, confusion, gullibility. Director Gregory Hoblit (Hart’s War), still best-known for decades of distinguished television work (NYPD Blue), brings the necessary intimacy to make the stars’ chemistry work effectively. His noirish atmosphere is a little over the top, sometimes pushing the audience to a level of expectation that the film isn’t really ready to deliver, but this, overall, is an enjoyable work. --Tom Keogh

Runaway Bride (Widescreen Edition) Overview

RUNAWAY BRIDE - DVD Movie

Runaway Bride (Widescreen Edition) Specifications

It took nearly a decade to find a mutually agreeable screenplay, but the stars and director of Pretty Woman finally reunited to make Runaway Bride, wisely avoiding any attempt to recapture the 1990 film's elusive magic. The result is a perfectly pleasant romantic comedy that would've fared better critically (despite boffo box office) if it hadn't been overshadowed by its blockbuster predecessor. It's certainly a more credible film than Pretty Woman, trading a far-fetched fairy tale (hooker hooks up with tycoon? bah!) for a more amiably conventional plot about big-city reporter Ike Graham (Richard Gere) who falls for a small-town handywoman Maggie Carpenter (Julia Roberts) with a nasty habit of fleeing from the altar in a recurring state of premarital panic.

Both characters are instantly likable, and the smooth dialogue by Josann McGibbon and Sara Parriott only occasionally panders to sitcom cuteness. And despite his routine sacrifice of subtle craft for commercial appeal, director Garry Marshall knows when to trust his stars and material, lending this movie a casual charm (aided by a terrific supporting cast) that never feels forced or artificial. The whole thing's utterly predictable, riding on the suspenseless question of whether Maggie will dump her sports-nut fiancé (Christopher Meloni) and tie the knot with Ike. It's a foregone conclusion after the usual games of romantic cat and mouse, but the chemistry between Roberts and Gere is undeniable, and with a decade's worth of additional stardom between them, they shine as brightly as ever. --Jeff Shannon

Toshiba 15LV505 15.6-Inch Widescreen LCD TV With Built-in DVD Player Review

Like most people, I like to spend my leisure times watching my favorite TV channels and it is one of the best ways to get some relaxation when I return home from my day long work. More then the TV channels offered by the cable subscribers I prefer watching action movies from my DVD collection. However, the problem is that I have to waste a lot of time fixing and connecting my age old TV with my previous DVD player.

Moreover, my age old TV fails to offer good performance when I watch those action packed films. So, what I decided was to buy a new LCD TV that offers some latest features and a good performance. However, I could not buy a large LCD TV as I don't have financial ability as well as the proper place for it. I was looking for a portable LCD TV that can satisfy me with its performance. After making some searches on the Internet I finally bought Toshiba 15LV505 15.6-Inch Widescreen LCD TV with built-in DVD player because it suit my budget and I personally like its features.

One most interesting features of this LCD TV model from Toshiba that truly impressed me is its built-in DVD player. Now I don't have to worry about all those inconveniences of connecting my previous DVD player with my age old TV. Toshiba 15LV505 comes with an inbuilt DVD player that allows me to enjoy all my favorite movies by just inserting the DVD. It is also an ideal space saver as it is portable in size and I can move it to different rooms of my home without any difficulty.

It is also equipped with built-in ATSC, NTSC and QAM digital tuners that allow me to watch all those popular cable channels. Moreover, it is loaded with various other advanced features like DivX system, digital picture zoom technology, Dolby digital stereo speakers and treble balance control systems. In spite of being a small LCD TV it delivers the best of picture quality and image results. Moreover, it is quite easy to operate and I don't feel like going to Movie theaters after buying this LCD TV.

Review National Treasure (Widescreen Edition)

National Treasure (Widescreen Edition) Best Review

National Treasure(released Nov/04)is an exceptionally engaging film which combines many elements of cyrptology, archeology, symbology, legends and half truths regarding the Masons and Knights Templar and all shaken and stirred into an Indiana Jones "glass".It contains a good solid cast of actors and coupled with Jon Turteltaub's taught directing skills this film is a clear winner.
The story involves one Ben Gates(Nick Cage)whose family has been guarding a passed down secret of a huge long lost treasure for generations. Finally getting a financial backer one Ian Howe(Sean Bean),they travel to the Arctic to uncover a long lost ship which contains a clue. The clue tells Ben the next important piece of the puzzle lies on the back of the Declaration of Independence.Howe tells him that he can obtain the document and this is the moment Ben realizes he has hooked up with the wrong people.A skirmish ensues and the ship blows up leaving Ben and a friend stranded, having to walk to the nearest settlement to be rescued.
Back in New York Ben visits several law enforcement agencies in an effort to alert them of what is coming. No one believes him and he decides in order to protect the valuable document he will steal it himself.Amazingly this is what he does with both the law and Howe on his tail.Mixed up in this is the curator of the the National Archives in Washington Dr.Chase(Diane Kruger). She inadvertently has to go on the run with Ben and they end up at the home of his father Patrick(Jon Voight),who has been a skeptic of the entire legend all his life.Ben finds his code and it makes a now skeptical believer out of Dr Chase also. When his father discovers what his son really has he is beside himself. In order to keep his father out of the situation however they tie him up and leave him just as the FBI shortly thereafter arrives at the house.
Howe is always dogging Ben and company's footsteps as they travel to Independence Hall in Philly. There they find a strange pair of bi-focals with which to view the back of the Declaration. The treasure they seek is under the old Trinity Church back in NYC.The FBI at one point lays a trap for Ben and for his pursuers Mr.Howe, but Ben manages to escape with the help of Howe who now has his friend,Dr Chase and his father captive. They all travel to the Church and discover a huge grotto which they descend. At the bottom is a room with nothing in it.Ben's father tells Howe the next clue lies in the North Tower in Boston, which is where Howe heads leaving the group stranded. However it is a false clue and Ben discovers an ante room which contains the real treasure. It is filled with thousands of years worth of artifacts and history. When the group re-enters the Church above the FBI swoops in.They are looking for fall guys and Ben gives them Howe and his men at the Church in Boston. As Ben wanted, the treasure/discovery is released to a museum in Cairo for the benefit of all mankind.
Once the movie establishes its premise the action seems to flow non stop throughout and the 130 minutes flies by very fast. Not only is the direction here very good, the editing of the film is fantastic and gives a greater impact to those moments which otherwise would have lagged.Cage,Voight,Bean,Kruger,Keitel(as an FBI man),et al turn in very good performances in their respective parts.
The movie is presented in its' widescreen 2:33:1 aspect ratio and the transfer is crisp and clean.Extras include a behind the scene featurette, deleted scenes,an alternate ending, director movie commentary, Knights Templar and "Treasure Hunters revealed" featurettes,an animatic of the opening scene(an animated storyboard)and some puzzle challenges(each special feature has a letter code to it).
All in all a highly recommended action packed film which is suitable for everyone's enjoyment.Made by Bruckheimer's production unit(Bruckheimer himself was deep into the production of the Pirates of the Caribbean movies at the time) and directed ably by Turteltaub, this film won't fail to please anyone.

National Treasure (Widescreen Edition) Feature

  • CAGE/BEAN/KRUGER/BARTHA

National Treasure (Widescreen Edition) Overview

From Jerry Bruckheimer, producer of PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN, and Jon Turteltaub, director of PHENOMENON, comes NATIONAL TREASURE. It's the thrilling, edge-of-your-seat adventure starring Academy Award® winner Nicolas Cage (1995 Best Actor, LEAVING LAS VEGAS) as Benjamin Franklin Gates. Ever since he was a boy, Gates has been obsessed with finding the legendary Knights Templar Treasure, the greatest fortune known to man. As Gates tries to find and decipher ancient riddles that will lead him to it, he's dogged by a ruthless enemy (Sean Bean, THE LORD OF THE RINGS trilogy) who wants the riches for himself. Now in a race against time, Gates must steal one of America's most sacred and guarded documents -- the Declaration of Independence -- or let it, and a key clue to the mystery, fall into dangerous hands. Heart-pounding chases, close calls, and the FBI turn Gates's quest into a high-stakes crime caper and the most exciting treasure hunt you've ever experienced.

National Treasure (Widescreen Edition) Specifications

Like a Hardy Boys mystery on steroids, National Treasure offers popcorn thrills and enough boyish charm to overcome its rampant silliness. Although it was roundly criticized as a poor man's rip-off of Raiders of the Lost Ark and The Da Vinci Code, it's entertaining on its own ludicrous terms, and Nicolas Cage proves once again that one actor's infectious enthusiasm can compensate for a multitude of movie sins. The contrived plot involves Cage's present-day quest for the ancient treasure of the Knights Templar, kept secret through the ages by Freemasons past and present. Finding the treasure requires the theft of the Declaration of Independence (there are crucial treasure clues on the back, of course!), so you can add "caper comedy" to this Jerry Bruckheimer production's multi-genre appeal. Nobody will ever accuse director Jon Turtletaub of artistic ambition, but you've got to admit he serves up an enjoyable dose of PG-rated entertainment, full of musty clues, skeletons, deep tunnels, and harmless adventure in the old-school tradition. It's a load of hokum, but it's fun hokum, and that makes all the difference. --Jeff Shannon

We kept forgetting to breathe! - Bibliophile - Grayslake, Illinois USA
I watched this film with my "8" &"10" year olds and we all loved it! My husband said he thought it was a great movie having seen it previously. We all found we kept holding our breath waiting for the next scene to unfold. Nicholas Cage is one of my favorites and two new actors (to me) are two I will look for! "Reilly" and "Miss Chase". Great! Action packed! A keeper!
