Review Law & Order: Special Victims Unit - Year Six

Law & Order: Special Victims Unit - Year Six Best Review

This product is so well known that it hardly needs my two cents. It is a first class series and the main reason why I still pay a TV supplier.
I bought it because I want to pass it on and because I am tired of endless commercials breaking up the story: 2 minutes of show and 3 of commercials is not my idea of entertainment. Now I can enjoy a full hour of real viewing. When my collection of DVD is complete, I will kiss those TV fees goodbye.

Law & Order Special Victims Unit-Year 6 - Brown E. Chisam - Temple City,Ca USA
I thought it was one of the weakest in the series, I own them all
and compared to Year 7 I was disappointed, but all in all a good series.

Law & Order SVU Year Six - Jerry Musil - Midwest
This is an excellent series of shows. There is one episode that is different than anything I have seen before in the series which was interesting. At first I did not like it, but after moving through the next couple of shows, I see its relevance.

The DVD collection was sealed and in perfect condition. It also arrived in a timely basis.

The Pros and Cons of a Movie Manager

Sometimes you just need a little more help, don't you? This is especially the case when you have a large number of movies to manage. Sometimes you need to call in reinforcements to allow you to focus on other things besides your movies. However is a movie manager really your best bet? When movies are your life or at least an important hobby, you might want to weight the benefits and the downsides of having a movie manager in the form of a software program. This way, you can be sure you are making the best decision for yourself and for your movies.

The Benefits of Movie Managing

First things first, the main benefit of a movie manager is that it can help you get organized. If you're typically not a person who is easily organized, this is going to be a blessing for you. The software will arrange any movies entered into it in any way you choose. This allows you to create a system of organization which makes sense for you. Movie manager software can also allow you to create a list which can be posted on a website or attached to an email for someone else to peruse. In this way, your movie collection becomes portable and accessible to anyone with whom you want to share it. You might also want to think about how easy it is to personalize the tools of a movie manager. Many of these software programs will allow you to put into it any information you deem necessary - ratings, extra details, etc. This way, you can create a system which helps you or that helps others who might be seeing your list.

The Downsides of Movie Managing

However, there are downsides to everything, aren't there? One of the main issues with a movie manager is that you need to spend time entering in the titles of the movies. And if you have a lot of movies, this can take up a long time. Of course, you might be able to pay off a younger sibling or cousin to do the work for you - and without spending a lot of money in the process. Another possible program with a film manager is that some people are simply not computer literate and if you're one of these people, you might find the installation of the process challenging. Most times, all you have to do is insert a disk or download the program - a no brainer - but that still might be too challenging for some. And if you're not on the computer a lot, this sort of movie manager doesn't make sense for your lifestyle either.

What's the Verdict?

In the end, most people who are computer savvy will appreciate the benefits of a movie manager program. Not only does this allow them to organize their movies, but they will also be able to create a list which helps them with ratings, future purchases, and with gift gifting.

Review All in the Family: Complete First Season

All in the Family: Complete First Season Best Review

Although the packaging leaves a little to be desired, just "take one for the team" and enjoy this for what it is. Along with its analogue look (it looks like video tape) and old-time TV sound, you will quickly forget these drawbacks as you are catapulted back to 1971, to see the complete, uncut episodes, from the beginning, of quite possibly the funniest program in all of TV.

See what happens when you throw "the rules" to the four winds? Things are SO crippled by political correctness today, and that is why most "modern" TV programming can't hold a candle to this bonfire. Nobody's feelings were spared, and guess what? People laughed anyway! Today's television exec's can learn a thing or two from releases like this. Guess what? PEOPLE LIKE THIS STUFF!

"All In The Family's" cast is populated with people I wouldn't like if I knew them: Archie Bunker is a loud-mouth bigot, Mike is a loud-mouth bleeding-heart liberal, Edith is an air-head, and Gloria is a whiny, spoiled brat. But basing your like or dislike of a program on liking the people in the show, is fatal to the viewing experience. All four key cast members are top-notch actors, and they do a magnificent job. They are 100% believable. Most households have several high-volume arguments a week, and this is one reason the show has such enduring popularity: the fights, particularly between Mike and Archie, are legendary. And funny. EXTREMELY funny. And the irony is, the presence of Edith. On the surface, she's downright stupid. But, watch a little closer; she's got a certain worldly wisdom to her, and actually, she's the glue that holds the family unit together. The shrill voice and rambling conversations, annoying as they are, are downright hilarious, especially when Archie is trying to make her stop.

Watching these classic shows, the time really does fly by. I could have knocked a star off because the discs are stacked in the case, one on top of another, on yet another, and you have to navigate to each show individually (unless you have a programming feature on your disc player), but in this case, the sum is way more than its parts.

Again, this was quite possibly the funniest show ever to air on TV. Today's programmers could learn a thing or two.

All in the Family: Complete First Season Specifications

Boy, the way the Beaver played. Ricky Nelson made the hit parade. Voices they were seldom raised. Those were the days. And then, on January 12, 1971, America met the Bunkers, and sitcoms would never be the same. The Bunkers were TV's first dysfunctional family: blue-collar bigot Archie (the late Carroll O'Connor in his iconic role), his long-suffering but loving wife Edith (Jean Stapleton), "little goil" Gloria (Sally Struthers), and her liberal husband "Meathead" Mike (Rob Reiner). Series creator Norman Lear broke near every rule and taboo in adapting the British series "Till Death Do Us Part" for American television. The series pilot, "Meet the Bunkers," was a bracing shocker that dared to find humor in prejudice. Archie dispenses racial epithets and ethnic slurs. Mike and Gloria clearly have an active sex life, while Edith, in the pilot at any rate, is more "pip" than "dingbat." In its first season, the series refused to, in Archie's words, "stifle" itself, tackling such hot-button topics as homophobia ("Judging Books by Covers"), racism ("Lionel Moves into the Neighborhood"), feminism ("Gloria Discovers Women's Lib"), and the generation gap (the touching "Success Story," with William Windom as Archie's former army buddy, a successful man who is revealed to be estranged from his son). All in the Family was a rich human comedy. Brought to life by a peerless ensemble, these characters would come to feel like family. Their foibles produced some of television's biggest laughs. They could also make us cry, as with the heartbreaking "Gloria's Pregnancy." Another series landmark is the season finale, "The First and Last Supper," in which we meet Isabel Sanford's Louise Jefferson (but, hilariously, not her husband, George). All in the Family was an instant lightning rod for controversy but went on to earn the comedy Emmy Award in its first year. This three-disc set has no extras (future sets will hopefully contain commentary by Lear or surviving cast members), but each episode is presented complete and uncut, restoring the funny, sometimes touching codas that were cut for syndication. --Donald Liebenson

Fantastic, Groundbreaking Show.....Worst DVD Release Ever! - Timothy R. Beldock - Madrid, NY United States
I've never submitted a review on Amazon, although I've purchased hundreds of DVD's. I hate to have my first review be a complaint, but in this case I feel that it's absolutely necessary. This series is unquestionably a classic, an American institution, the epitome of 70's pop culture. Sony, who by the way has had many shoddy, incomplete releases in the past, has finally outdone themselves. The discontinued versions of the first six seasons of this show have now been replaced with cheap casings that might as well be covered with plastic wrap. The three discs of each set are STACKED ON TOP OF EACH OTHER (apparently Sony couldn't shell out to supply an additional piece of plastic for an extra tray!). Two of the discs could have been placed on either side of the inner case, and that wouldn't have cost anything. Instead, we get this....

The video quality is horrendous. I have to squint to distinguish faces. Take my advice and simply videotape the first six seasons as they re-run on TV Land. You'll have a much better quality collection that way. Pretty sad in 2010 when we are adorned with every series known to man, with exceptional video quality on DVD and now Blu-ray.

Luckily, thanks to Shout Factory, we will now (after what, five years of waiting?) have the last three seasons of this show available. Hopefully they will do a better job of "remastering" the episodes. The only down side is that since Sony has already released the first six seasons and destroyed the series for collectors, Shout probably can't obtain the rights to the full series run to release a decent "Complete Series" set. Thanks alot Sony. Please stop releasing TV shows on DVD, because you are only wasting buyers' time and making a lot of fans of great shows like this very upset!

One of the greatest shows of all time! The great acting and writing keep you laughing and nodding. A must see for all and the show that started the "Jeffersons".

Review Inherit the Wind

Inherit the Wind Best Review

Too many have dissected this true classic, loosely based on the Scopes "Monkey" Trial in Tennessee back in the 1920s. Spencer Tracy plays a brilliant variation on Clarence Darrow. Therefore, I have only a couple of (I hope) fresh observations:

1. This film really breathes life. I wish I had some idea of where and how it was filmed. The thoughtfulness of it is Kurosawa-esque.

2. Frederic March as Brady-the-weird-politician is most annoying. Like most politicians, one cannot really get a feel for this man's motives, or decide whether one likes or hates him.

3. I wonder how many people realize Frederic March was the first actor to make a huge splash as Dr. Jekyll...and about a decade later, Tracy took a shot at the role too.

4. The addition of Gene Kelly as the obnoxious newspaper reporter is most unnecessary and takes away from this film. He makes pathetic attempts at Groucho Marx one-liners in certain parts of the film. Awful. Otherwise he does a great job in this film as the representative of America's true conscience.

5. I believe every person in America should watch this film...especially the younger audience who knows nothing about anything. The nasty Christian right-wing in this country is clearly nothing new...kids should see this behavior for themselves, and this film does a grand job. What is most frightening is Tracy's character is so accepting of it, and the young teacher (a nice early performance by Dick Sargent) is himself a (moderate) Bible-thumper.

Very pertinent to today is the trial itself: creationism vs. evolution (or, rather, Darwinism, which I always liked better as a term anyway). I'd be willing to bet that the modern Christian right hates this film today as much as they probably did when it was first released.

6. I wonder if the death scene of Ole Man Brady is based on a real event during the Scopes trial.

Enjoy this masterful, never-to-be-repeated cinematic marvel.

Inherit the Wind Overview

Two-time Best Actor OscarÂ(r) winners* Spencer Tracy and Fredric March go toe-to-toe in this thrilling re-creation of the most titanic courtroom battle of the century. Garnering four Academy AwardÂ(r) nominations**, including Best Actor (Tracy), and featuring Gene Kelly in a rare, critically-acclaimed dramatic role, Inherit the Wind is powerful, provocative cinema and "a heaping measure of entertainment" (The Hollywood Reporter)! The controversial subject of evolution versus creation causes two polar opposites to engage in one explosive battle of beliefs. Attorney Clarence Darrow (Tracy) faces off against fundamentalist leader William Jennings Bryan (March) in a small Tennessee town where a teacher has been brought to trial for teaching Darwinism. Let the trial begin...and watch the sparks fly!

Inherit the Wind Specifications

Two of the juiciest roles in the American theater fall at the feet of Spencer Tracy and Fredric March, and both men make a meal of it. Inherit the Wind, based on the play by Jerome Lawrence and Robert E. Lee, is a slightly fictionalized account of the Scopes Monkey Trial, that galvanizing legal drama of the 1920s. When a young Tennessee teacher is prosecuted for teaching the theory of evolution in a public school, he receives unwanted public attention as well as the legal advice of a giant. Tracy plays the role based on Clarence Darrow, the eloquent defense attorney, and March storms his way through a part based on Williams Jennings Bryan, the failed presidential candidate (and famed orator) who prosecuted the case. Gene Kelly plays a character based on the acid-penned H.L. Mencken, reporting on the trial and caustically commenting on the absurdity of the human animal. Stanley (Judgment at Nuremberg) Kramer's direction is not especially subtle, but the verbal fireworks unleashed during the trial sequences are still stirring. Even the different styles of the actors are intriguing: March is all mannerism and false padding around the belly, while Tracy does his patented naturalistic grumbling. It would be nice if this story were a quaint period piece, but its issues and arguments keep reemerging in the headlines with each new generation. --Robert Horton

Improves with age - Jacob A Trujillo -
Inherit the Wind - As a classic, it improves with age. I now live within a short drive to the town of Dayton TN, where the trial took place. We will visit the courthouse soon.

Totally A Classic. A Must See For Young And Old - Stuart J. Winter - Los Angeles, Ca.
Inherit The Wind has to be one of the best acted movies i have ever seen. Frederic March and Spencer Tracy give performances that are not seen on the screen today. This movie not only entertains, but delivers social commentary for both sides of the fence. The performances are so subtle, you really feel that you are there in the courtroom with them. A must see. Highly recommended.

What a Gem - Neil S. Rieck - Kitchener/Waterloo, Ontario, Canada.
I first viewed this film in college (1970) when it was already ten years old but foolishly didn't appreciate it until recently. Since my college days, western society seems to have become even more polarized with many people from the religious-right scorning everything coming from science (I do not perceive an equivalent attack on religion coming from science). After watching the 2007 PBS program "NOVA: Intelligent Design on Trial" I began thinking about "Inherit the Wind" and so ordered it.

Now I need to point out that "Inherit the Wind" is not a documentary: it is a fictionalized account of an actual 1925 Tennessee trial where the people supporting the side of evolution "lost". I'm not sure why the producers went with a fictionalized account but can only assume that it was done this way so as to not offend the family names of the trial participants even though the film was made 35-years later. Why did evolution lose? It seems to me that the members of that particular jury didn't possess the requisite scientific knowledge to understand the presented facts. They did appear to be sensitive to the bible-centric emotional arguments.

Copy VHS To DVD

There is technology available that allows users to transfer VHS movies to DVDs. This task consumes a lot of power. The volume of memory in the computer and the quickness of the CPU determine the rate and ease of the transfer. A CPU with a minimum of 2.8 GHZ and 512 MB of RAM is generally suggested.

The transferred VHS movies are stored, albeit temporarily, on the hard drive of the computer. This process takes up a lot of space. Buying a large hard drive just for this purpose may not be as unfeasible, as hard drives are fairly inexpensive.

DVD discs and burners have two formats, DVD+R and DVD-R. Of the two, DVD-R format is more common and in tune with most DVD players. Therefore, it is a more feasible format to use if the DVD player is connected to the television.

To copy VHS movies to DVD, you need competent video editing software that can capture analog signals from the VHS, edit the same and publish the video to a DVD format. There are devices on the market that assist in this task.

A Video Capture Card is probably the best choice for video editing. The higher the quality of the Capture Card the better the results. Capture Cards come in a price range of $100 to $10,000. There is a distinctly cheaper alternative -- the External Capture Device. This tiny box is the best option for a computer novice. There is no need for a Video Capture Card with this box, but it does not give the user the editing choices that are offered by Video Capture Cards. The External Capture Devices sell for $50 to $150. Graphics Cards possessing Video Capturing Capabilities are the third and the newest option. Graphic Cards are the ideal choice for people buying a new computer they are less expensive than purchasing a Capture Card and a video Card.

Review Louie Giglio: The Heart of Passion

Louie Giglio: The Heart of Passion Best Review

I've only had the opportunity to view two of these DVD's, but they are incredible. I purchased this DVD set to show at our teen camp. We watched Indescribable and How Great Is Our God - outside under the stars. I was watching to see how the kids would react and they were all "glued" to the screen. Louie is a gifted speaker and when you combine that with amazing photos and information, well it's incredible.

Best suited for teens and up.

DVD Wholesale Distributors

Wholesale DVD distributors license the DVD distribution rights from studios producing the movies and supply DVDs to retail stores, online merchants, DVD rental companies and mail order stores. Often the DVDs are manufactured or imported by wholesalers themselves.

DVDs are sold as bundles containing different titles. Action, comedy, drama, family, horror, kids, martial arts, and western are some of the popular DVD genres. They are sold as pre-boxed bundles or customized according to orders. Often DVDs contain extra content not available to viewers in the movie theatres. These include interviews with the stars, behind the scenes action from the movie sets and scenes which have been deleted from the movie. These extras are an added attraction for DVD consumers.

The major revenue accruing to wholesale DVD distributors is through the sale of video products to retail shops and video rentals. There has been considerable growth in the mail order rental via the Internet in the US. Netflix, which is one of the largest online rental companies, has more than two million customers. The company expects to have about five percent share of the entire US market in 2006. It ships about three million DVDs each week.

DVD retailers enjoy a good margin and an increasing number of people are taking to purchasing DVDs in bulk from a wholesaler and selling them on auction sites such as EBay and online stores. Several DVD distributors offer drop shipping and mail the DVDs directly to the end consumer on the retailer's behalf.

DVD mail order via the Internet, digital distribution which includes providing a movie download service via the distributor's own broadband infrastructure, game stores, video on demand services, and pay-per-view services are the current trends. Video on demand (VOD) systems allow users to watch video over a network as part of an interactive television system. The video can be seen at any time, whereas a pay-per-view system allows television viewers to purchase events for a private telecast in their homes.

Why Chinese Movies Are So Different From Western Films in the Way of Expressions

When we consider about the reasons of such big differences between Chinese movies and western films in the way of expressions, different social backgrounds should be the general and decisive reason.

To put it in details: the art of Chinese movie is affected in many aspects by culture and traditions, including emotional expression, narrative methods, style performance, education, education awareness, the reality of the tragedy of comedy optional check, awareness of life ethics bias of reality and the subconscious subjective concerns alienation and so on.

The most significant here is the emotional expressional forms. Oriental movies of emotional expression are most truly revealed the differences between movies of china and the West, which also derived a unique feature in behavior, performance, and cinema-style. The Chinese art forms to express emotions of film culture highlight the expression character: that is, advocating for the degree of moderation, restraint implicit emotional lyric approach.

Limier is the founder of the documental film; his films were the first ones as some magic films or current-affairs films. These films were as tens of meters long but only played just a few minutes; moreover, there is no change of the lens, which can be called a single-lens video.

But just in such childish movies, there had been changes of screens and special-effect photography. The 1950's after war is a new age of movie. Three-dimensional movies, panoramic movies, wide screen movies broke the frame of the screen, broaden people's horizons. High-speed photographic film and tape recording availed people to shoot outside; color and stereo made brilliant films. All of these made movie to be more diversified and real. But different countries are with a different development of science, which brought different development to movie business.

As time goes by, the development of the form of expression was significant. Various forms of expressions appeared during this processes of developing. Such as: Description (scene descriptions, detail descriptions, simple description), a symbol of grotesque, realist, video tone, screen effects, screen design, rhythm (internal rhythm, external rhythm), Curate, Chauvin effect, the lens (subjective lens, objective lens, and air lens), space-time conversion skills, fade and slowly appear, cut (jump cut), and overprint, zoned, flash back, and so on. Usually, many of them are used as a unity in one film as a way of different aims of the editors. Despite the favors of individual film makers, there are also big differences in use of these film shooting methods.

Download Full Length DVD Movies - Take Advantage Of Undisputed Benefits

Many movie studios have come to a conclusion that selling movies only on DVDs is not always viable for them, so they started allowing Internet users to download full length DVD movies at a lower fee. Since this eliminates the need of inventory and storage space, as well as gives an opportunity to reach out for a wider audience, the method has proven to be beneficial for the movie distributors - and for movie buffs, of course!

So, now you don't need to buy an expensive DVD every time you want to watch a new movie. What if it turns to be disappointing? The DVD will be put aside to collect dust forever, then. Even rental is not that cheap, especially if you tend to watch lots of movies and fail to return the DVDs on time. When you download full length DVD movies online, you basically get the same experience plus a few great advantages:

1. As mentioned before, it gives you an opportunity to save. Fee per download can range between $2 and $5 in most cases, but there are even cheaper options that are based on paid membership rather than price per downloaded movie.

2. When you are offered to download full length DVD movies, it means the quality will be the same as you see on a conventional DVD. Basically, it is the exact copy of the same movie issued on a DVD, without any cuts and/or changes. In other words, you do not lose anything by downloading a movie online and not buying in a store.

3. Professional and reputed sites will not only allow you to download a full length DVD movie, but also transfer it to a disk to play on a conventional video player. All the required software and conversion programs are provided for free.

4. Unlike the chaos of shady torrent websites, neatly organized files and easy search of legal movie distributing websites are definitely helpful. You can also be sure that no hidden virus or malware will pass to your system along with the downloaded file.

5. With the fast downloading speeds of advanced websites you no more have to wait hours to download a full length DVD movie. The entire process is many times easier and faster than going to the DVD shop, browsing through the selection, standing in a line to pay, etc.

With all the obvious advantages of the new alternative, it is only natural that it is becoming the first choice of so many people worldwide. Wait no longer - download full length DVD movies of your choice and enjoy the undisputed benefits!

DVD Inkjet Printer - The Preferred Choice of Cost and Quality Conscious Professionals

Today just offering the best CD/DVD product is not sufficient to grow fast or to beat the competition. If you want to lead the race, you need to be operating cost conscious also. Very few Dvd inkjet printer brands offer you both the features besides being reasonably priced. When you plan to buy a disk printer, first of all you have two options- inject or thermal. Both have their own advantages and limitations, so selection depends entirely upon the nature of use. The following section will ease down your task.

Inkjet disk printing technology allows the transfer of high resolution color images with 4800 dpi to disk surface. These disk printers give photographic-quality finish up/on the prints. These printers come with ink cartridges. These cartridges eject droplets of ink through the print head over the printable area.

Thermal DVD printers are commonly used for personalizing DVDs. Thermal disc printers release solid pigments on the disk surface from a coated ribbon using heat and pressure both. Thermal disc printers give more durable finish but maximum resolution is generally about 300 X 600 dpi. Although these produce excellent prints of text or designs but do not mix colors perfectly like inject printers. The better alternative of thermal disk printer is thermal retransfer printers. The prints of thermal retransfer printers are comparatively more environmental or handling stresses resistant. But what about the cost?

If your requirements are small or medium sized and budget is constraint, inkjet disc printer would be the best option. Inkjet printers use inkjet-printable disc for printing. The difference between both kinds of discs is that inkjet-printable discs have extra coating. This coating is commonly known as Ink Absorption Layer. This layer retains and absorbs the ink that makes the prints quick dry.

Inkjet disc printers are compatible with most operating systems like Windows and Mac. You don't need to change your hardware as these can be connected through USB port. All the CD/DVD inject printers come with their own software that helps you to design the prints with extra ease. Growing demand of disc inkjet printer proves that these are still no. 1 choice of professionals. So after deciding to buy inkjet CD/DVD printer, next task is to select the best out of wide range available in the stores.

Primera BravoPro Xi AutoPrinter, Epson Discproducer Autoprinter, Microboards PrintFactory Pro, Epson Artisan 810 All-In-One and Primera Bravo SE AutoPrinter are some popular models and brands that have always been hot selling brands. Selection depends where you settle with DPI, printing time, printing cost and disc handling capacity like parameters. Yes, budget also plays important role but decide keeping in mind the future requirements also.

Download Full Movies - How to Download Full Movies Online

So you're looking for a place to download full movies online? The trouble with watching full movies on the internet is that it's hard to find exactly what you're looking for. Either you can't find that latest movie, or when you do the quality is almost unwatchable and the movies been split up into twenty different sections!

So are there services online that allow you to download full movies, in full DVD quality, quickly and easily? Yes! There are a ton of sites out there that allow you to do this but as with everything online it's hard to find them and separate the scams from the legitimate services. But, follow a few simple rules and you will find a great service to download full movies from quickly and easily.

Firstly, you can download full movies from free 'torrent' sites. I do not recommend this. Torrent sites are unregulated and the movies you download more often than not contain viruses and spyware - these sites are the number one ways for hackers to corrupt your computer. For a very small one time fee you can join a paid site that has the latest clean, full, DVD quality movies ready to download at the click of a mouse. These sites give you membership for life when you join and have all the latest movies.

If you're going to pay to join a movie download site, you should get the most out of your money. Choose a site that has TV shows and music as well as the latest movies. I've seen download sites with more than 80 million files all ready for you to download instantly.

To make sure your not joining a scam service, choose a site that has a money back guarantee. My favorite site has an 8 week, no questions asked money back guarantee (not that I've had to use it) and a 24/7 customer support service in case you have any questions or problems you need sorting out.

Follow these simple rules and you will find a great service to download full movies from. To read a review of my favorite movie download service that I use on a regular basis click here

Review The Other Boleyn Girl

The Other Boleyn Girl Best Review

"The Other Boleyn Girl" is an exciting period costume drama, very loosely based on King Henry VIII's relationship with the Boleyn sisters Anne and Mary, members of an ambitious family associated with the Royal Court, and derivative of Philippa Gregory's novel of the same name.

In 16th Century England, power politics are a family blood sport, in which the goal is to get close to the King, and stay close by any means necessary. When the dashing and handsome Henry VIII (Eric Bana) pays an official visit to the Boleyns, the family schemes to draw his attention to pretty, ambitious and eligible elder daughter Anne (Natalie Portman in full vixen mode). Through an unfortunate accident, the King instead becomes interested in plainer but honest younger daughter Mary (a superbly sympathetic Scarlett Johansson). When the two daughters are invited to court, they end up in competition to replace Henry's aging, barren queen. It is a high stakes game that the brazen Anne will do anything to win, in which the fate of the entire Boleyn family is very much at hazard.

The story falls short of historical accuracy, but many viewers are likely to be caught up in a fascinating historical melodrama, filled with a solid cast in colorful costumes, lush sets and lots of authentic location shooting. Ultimately, the movie turns on the complex relationship between the two sisters, who become bitter rivals but somehow never quite stop being sisters. Natalie Portman and Scarlett Johansson as Anne and Mary are fun to watch, and the story generates plenty of suspense before its dramatic ending. "The Other Boleyn Girl" is highly recommended as good entertainment. The DVD includes some nice extras.

The Other Boleyn Girl Overview

Based on the best-selling novel, The Other Boleyn Girl is a captivating tale of intrigue, romance and betrayal starring Natalie Portman, Scarlett Johansson, and Eric Bana. Two sisters, Anne (Portman) and Mary (Johansson), are driven by their ambitious family to seduce the king of England (Bana) in order to advance their position in court. What starts as an opportunity for the girls to increase their family fortune becomes a deadly rivalry to capture the heart of a king to stay alive.

The Other Boleyn Girl Specifications

A tale of two sisters competing for the same king, The Other Boleyn Girl uses historical facts as window dressing for this work of fiction that is entertaining, if not wholly believable. Anne Boleyn (Natalie Portman) is the doe-eyed vixen ordered by her power-hungry uncle to bewitch King Henry VIII (Eric Bana). Her shy sister Mary (Scarlett Johansson) has always been in Anne's shadow; Anne is prettier, more accomplished, and desired by many men. So when the King picks Mary--the "other Boleyn girl"--as his mistress, Anne turns on her sister and schemes to become not only the King's consort, but his new queen. With a pair of American actresses in the lead roles and an Aussie portraying their hunky object of desire, the English accents are all over the place in this period piece with a modern feel. Though the Boleyn girls' mother points out that her "daughters are being traded like cattle for the advancement of men," it is Anne who ultimately throws her slight weight around to bully Henry into doing her bidding. When he begs her to give herself to him, Anne--wearing a Carrie Bradshaw-esque "B" pendant on her neck--counters, "Make me your Queen." Is the audience really supposed to believe that Henry the VIII--the most powerful man in the land--would divorce Catherine of Aragon, separate from the Catholic church, and put England in upheaval simply because Anne refused to sleep with him until he jumped through all her hoops? "I have torn this country apart for you," he hisses at her before finally getting his way. Based on Philippa Gregory's bestselling novel of the same name, The Other Boleyn Girl features an attractive cast and a familiar plot with some icky twists. Kieran McGuigan's cinematography is breathtaking and is as crucial to setting the film's tone as the dialogue. Actually, it fares better: Lines such as "Well? Did he have you?!" sound almost comical. But the sweeping shots of Henry's kingdom and the carefully framed close-ups of Portman and Johansson are breathtaking in their beauty and say what words simply cannot. --Jae-Ha Kim

Meh - Ladyethyme - Seattle, WA USA
Ok, Scarlett and Natalie were excellent and beautiful, obviously. The gowns were lustrous and winning. Everything else was horrid, honestly. Henry was flat and uninteresting, and the plot...oh my god. It was not only completely historically inaccurate, but this is a case where history is by far more interesting and sexy than the movie! How is that possible? Ask Hollywood....

About that rape... - Sorcia MacNasty - North Carolina
Fun fact! The screenwriter, Peter Morgan, who adapted this film also wrote the 2003 Henry VIII series starring Ray Winstone Henry VIII and guess what?! The Anne Boleyn Rape Scene is IDENTICAL. Well, except that it's big ol' scary Ray Winstone raping the hell out of Helena Bonham Carter.

What the hell, Peter Morgan? Why you hatin' on Anne Boleyn enough that you keep having her get raped by Henry VIII? She lost her head, historically, do you really feel the need to re-write history and have her molested in the bargain? Pump the breaks, maniac.

Entertaining, unless you have studied Tudor history - D.B. -
I've been a student of Tudor history, and especially the tragedy of Anne Boleyn, whose story has always fascinated me, for about forty years. I saw the movie after reading Ms. Gregory's book, itself a wildly speculative work of loosely based historical fiction - emphasis on fiction. The movie is even worse, from an historical accuracy perspective. Mary Boleyn was anything but the shrinking violet and dutiful little daughter she is portrayed to be; what little can be found of her in historical accounts indicates that she was sent home in disgrace from the French court for promiscuity. She was married to Will Carey right after her fling with Henry, and if the child she bore was in fact the King's, he did not acknowledge it so. Anne spent several years at the French court, not just a couple of months, and not because she was sent there as punishment; when she joined the English court, she introduced many French trends, a sharp contrast to Queen Katharine's Spanish ways. Nor was she as young as Natalie Portman plays her; she was at least thirty when Elizabeth was born, and somewhere around 36 when she died. Henry, as portrayed by Eric Bana, was anything but the still young, still slim, still handsome sex symbol he is shown to be, and he was red-haired, to boot. George Boleyn was anything but the scared little boy he is made out to be; although compelled to marry Jane Parker, he was actually the life of the court, quite a womanizer and gambler, and the center of a group of courtiers who were the King's, and Anne's, friends and constant companions. Rather than being the only man sent to the block for adultery with Anne, George was only one of five men accused and executed. Jane Parker recanted her testimony regarding the siblings' incest, which sent her husband to his death, at her own execution in 1542. The sisters did not take turns competing for Henry, nor did they take turns playing serving maid to each other while the other slept with the King. Mary was, in fact, banished from court, never to return, when she secretly married William Stafford. There is no record of her attempting to intercede with the King on Anne's behalf, and she certainly did not carry Elizabeth away with her to raise; Elizabeth at the time of her mother's death was established in her own household, with servants, nurses, and governesses, and at some remove from court, an arrangement that did not change for several years. Norfolk, while the malignant mover and shaker behind pimping out the Boleyn and Howard girls, was not the person who destroyed Anne's relationship with Henry Percy; that was done by Cardinal Wolsey, at the King's instigation.

I could go on, but before taking this film seriously, read The Lady in the Tower: The Fall of Anne Boleyn by Alison Weir, a meticulously researched documentary written by a recognized contemporary historian.

On the positive side, the costumes are spectacular.

Video Blogging For Profit

People are already making a profit from their blogs, and video blogs (aka vlogs) are in line to be the new way of making money online. Blogging has been adopted by the business sector as well for its ability to inform, update and engage customers and clients. As video blogging becomes more mainstream and Internet video popularity grows, so will the demand for video blogging services. As of right now, there are two directions you can go to generate profits with video blogging.

Video Blogging Services

It takes a lot more time to create and edit video for a video blog. That's bad news for a time-crunched business owner, but good news for net-savvy videographers. Ideas for how companies could utilize a video blog are similar to how they could benefit from implementing streaming video on their website. A politician could effectively use a video blog during a campaign, or small businesses could use a video blog to educate customers and generate interest. The sky is the limit! Your challenge is to present that need to prospective clients.

Launch Your Own Video Blog

The other direction to take in video blogging for profit is to launch your own. A vlog would be particularly useful to a videographer marketing his/her services. You could also launch a video blog covering a certain issue or topic, or take a more creative approach to telling a story. Again, the sky is the limit. Revenue would be created with text ads on the blog itself (ie: Google Adwords) or as your vlog becomes more popular, you could sell ad space in the video clips themselves. Charging a subscription fee is another option, although not one that works well on the web in most cases.

Video blogs such as Rocketboom and Blip.tv have already gained a large following on the web. They are positioned to reap the commercial benefits of the medium by selling ad space. As video blogging evolves and gains mainstream acceptance, it will become the next Internet entrepreneurial frontier.

Review The All-New Super Friends Hour: Season One, Vol. 1

The All-New Super Friends Hour: Season One, Vol. 1 Best Review

I bought this DVD for my 2 little boys, ages 4 1/2 and 2 1/2. My 4 year old was really getting to the point where he was interested in super heros and action figures, Spiderman, etc., but I was hesitant to let him watch the shows on TV, because they seemed too violent for a boy his age. Remembering watching the Super Friends on Saturday morning cartoons when I was little, I searched for them and found this DVD. It has been a HUGE HIT!!! Both of my little boys LOVE watching the stories!! And they haven't complained once of being scared by anything. There are some monsters and strange creatures, but there isn't really any serious violence or blood, just enough intrigue and action to keep them enthralled. The episode are fairly short and they have moral messages at the end. I am really glad that I found this DVDE, as it seems to satisfy their need for action, and my need for something appropriate for their ages.

1973 "Superfriends", animated series. DVD. - Dr. Feelgood - USA
Saturday morning line-up has changed considerably, since 1973. The shows that are on now, are really terrible, from Hannah Montana, to whatever else is popular now. So, it is quite refreshing to see this show again, even though, it was a bit dopey, the story lines and events, were not well developed.

Nostalgia for me, Superheros for my son (ok, for me, too) - Matthew R. Aptekar - Brooklyn
This DVD set was a gift for my 4 year old son. He LOVES it. As do I, for that matter. I remember getting up early on Saturday mornings to watch this show, its predecessors and decendants.

I like that this show has between-scene extras. Magic tricks, environmental tips, games and lessons. This show has a light-hearted approach to hero vs villian that the newer Justice League cartoons do not have.

Don't get me wrong, the newer Justice League, and far too short-lived Justice League Unlimited, cartoons are fantastic, they are masterpieces in their own rights, but clearly targeting an older audience.

Fun stuff. I want more of it!

Great nastalga for me, but also great from my kids - Benjamin Meyer -
I grew up watching Super Friends and loved it. I can remember spending hours pretending to be one of these super heroes.

But the best thing about this DVD set for me is that I can allow my 5 year old son to watch it without worrying that it is too violent or will have bad language. The episodes are clean, good wins over evil, and there is limited violence. I appreciate this, especially after dealing with much of what occurs on newer cartoons.

Back to childhood - A Mother of 2 Kidlets - Chicago suburbs
I vaguely remember watching this as a child. I wanted something both of my children would enjoy watching, so I gave this a try. They have played this DVD to death! I like the social messages that it addresses and the positive attitude that the SuperFriends present in each ethical situation. My kids love it so much, I'm ordering the next volume!

Review Max Headroom: The Complete Series (Lenticular Cover)

Max Headroom: The Complete Series (Lenticular Cover) Best Review

As many have said before Max Headroom was ahead of its time in a lot of ways. I believe this was the first, dystopic cyperpunk styled television series to be released on either side of the pond. And not many came after that. In other words all you William Gibson/Blade Runner fans out there should take note. This show was dark, gritty, and with loads of tech goodies. It delved into the same Gibson-type themes like class warfare, dependence on technology, the rise and domination of major corporations, and more. In many ways it takes on this material better than most cyberpunk movies did at the time.

Max Headroom started off as a fictional computer construct that had his own show. Of course back then the technology wasn't there to make a decent enough computer generated image so the character was portrayed by Matt Frewer (Honey I Shrunk the Kids) with a lot of make up and video editing effects. The Max Headroom Show was essentially a music video program with Max as the host. The concept was Max was an artificial intelligence. People loved it. He also did Coke commercials, specials and even was featured in some songs. Then a TV movie called Max Headroom and 20 Minutes into the Future came to be. From there this television series was born.

Building on the A.I. concept the show gave an origin for Max as the digital alter ego of a prolific news reporter Edison Carter from said dystopic future. In this future government is put to the side in place of big business, and the biggest are the television stations. So Edison goes around finding great exposes for his relatively benevolent TV megacorporation Network 23. So that's the premise in a nutshell. Lots of great ideas came from that including commercials that can fry your brain, pirate tv channels run from mobile vans, subliminal mind control, dream recording, and other crazy stuff.

The Max Headroom series was really ahead of its time in a number of ways. A part of Edison's crew includes a "controller" that can access various public and security cameras as well as hack into security access and other subsystems rather easily. This controller also can pull up just about any information Edison needs from whatever database she accesses (Internet anyone?). Max himself seems to be able to talk to and get into just about any computer, television or other network device available. There are episodes that deal with gene manipulation on the fetal level, conspiracies to gain attention through false terrorist acts, people not acknowledged because they are not on any database, apocalyptic religions. This all may seem old hat these days. However television didn't really touch on a lot of these subjects in those days.

So yes, Max Headroom is cool if you like this kind of stuff. Now this DVD has been a long time coming. All 14 episodes (that includes the one that didn't aire in the U.S.) are already slated. Not much else has been announced on what's going to come with this set, but this is supposed to be a five DVD set release and it's hard to believe all that space is just going to be the shows. Here are some things that are out there that could be possible options:

Max Headroom: 20 Minutes into the Future - This is an obvious choice as it is the telefilm that launches the American TV series. It's the origin story of Max and establishes the setting and vibe of the entire series.

Unproduced Scripts - There are three known scripts that never made it beyond pre-production. They are Xmas, Theora's Tale and The Trial. Would be nice to see them along with any pre-production footage that exists.

The Max Headroom Show - It might be too much to ask for the entire 17 episode run, but it would be need to get a peek at a couple of the best snippets.

The Coka Cola and Radio Rentals commercials - They are definitely a sign of the times, but still would be interesting to have a few in here if they can get the licensing from the respective companies.

Music Video - Art of Noise did a song called Paranormia that featured Max rambling on to music. Could be a quick and easy addition to fill space.

Max Headroom on Sesame Street - A short appearance he did reciting the alphabet.

The Original Max Talking Headroom Show - A short lived interview show from Cinemax.

These are all well and good, but just about all of them are just pertaining to Max Headroom the character and not the show. Here's hoping Shout! Factory can dig up some behind the scenes footage, outtakes and bloopers, interviews with cast and crew, anything about the show. As for there being a Blu-Ray release it likely won't happen anytime soon. Shout! Factory hasn't had a Blu-Ray release yet. I don't think they have the resources for the remastering and touching up that is involved. Oh well. Maybe we'll see it 20 minutes in the future.

Television networks battle one another in an unrelenting ratings war. Whoever controls the airwaves controls the dystopic world in which they broadcast. So when Network 23s star reporter, Edison Carter, uncovers a deadly secret that could shake up the dominion the station has over its viewers, the only option is to eliminate Carter before he can make his story public. Praise be to "The Shout Factory!" - Rykre - Carson City, Nevada
All us Sci-Fi fans have been waiting for this short-lived, but very important TV series from back in the eighties. Any company could have picked up this series and made a fortune for themselves releasing this ardently-sought-after TV series.

I even expected that Rhino could have gotten the license to release this series. But anyway, I know many of us are hoping that this series would be released simultaneously in Blu-Ray with the DVD release, but I really doubt that that will happen. Even Rhino, hasn't released anything in Blu-Ray, because High Definition mastering is a whole different ball game.

But, anyway, now many of us who have been holding on to our old dinosaur VCR's just to play our own old TV recorded VHS tapes of episodes of Max Headroom will now be able to watch the series on DVD and will be enjoying a hell of a lot better sound and picture.

I can't wait. Thank you, Shout Factory.

About time - D. R. M. - Minneapolis, MN United States
When this show was on originally in 1987 (on the cover of Time or Newsweek and it still was canceled), I fell in love with it and managed to tape most of the episodes on my Beta recorder. My last Beta machine conked out 15 years ago and I was unable to watch Max (and a few other shows) ever since. Last year, though, I found a Beta deck at a yard sale for the grand sum of ! And it works great! (A pro quality Toshiba that weighs a ton!) So, I've been watching Max again. And boy, does this show hold up! It's a precursor of so many TV shows and movies it isn't funny. Way ahead of its time. Also, it predicts the plague of garbage reality TV we suffer from today. If you've never seen it, at least Netflix it when it comes out. I wouldn't be surprised if you end up buying it. I, for one, am really looking forward to seeing the show--with its great dystopian look and feel--on sharp new DVD transfers. It's one of TV's smartest, funniest sci fi shows.

Not to nitpick, but - chiricahuaa -
How come in this day and age are they not coming out with a new release also in Blu-Ray. Probably so we'll all buy the DVD (cause we really want it!) and for Christmas they'll come out with the Blu-Ray version. Or maybe more versions in progression, as in the George Lucas sales method. Come on-we'll even pay more for Max in Blu-Ray! One star off because of no blu-ray.

Download DVD Movies - A Quick Look at Vongo, Movielink and CinemaNow

Vongo, Movielink and CinemaNow are three great providers of downloadable DVD movies. To help you choose between them, here's a quick comparison:

Vongo is still in beta and has a very big memory leak but they have a lot of content for you to choose from if you are willing to do your own searching as it is not filtered very well. There is an editorial service that provides user ratings, graphics, trailers and filters. In order to use Vongo you will have to allow them to automatically install an update manager. This service only costs $10 per month and allows you to access hundreds of movies and pay per view options. This web site as it is definitely working to improve upon itself.

Movielink operates quite smoothly and offers superb video quality. You can rent the movie for 30 days but you will have to view it within 24 hours of downloading it via their satellite program. This manager is quite useful as it will automatically resume any broken downloads and remove any expired movies. Downloading this program is not a big deal as it will automatically figure out which area of your computer has the necessary 600-1000MB for this program. You can play your movie in either RealPlayer or Windows Media Player. The prices are not bad either, but there is no shopping cart available.

CinemaNow is the leading web site for downloading movies. They have more than 4,000 titles available for you to rent in such a way that is both quick and convenient. You will pay a lot less money for these movies too, as the cost is only between $1.99 and $3.99 per rental. There are also discounts available in the Showcase Section. Once you begin watching your movie you will have 48 hours to finish watching it on your PC, laptop or television. This is because they have a download-to-burn service, which allows you to burn the movies you download and watch them on your television's DVD player.

These downloads are Microsoft compatible, but they do work best with Media Play. There are also High Definition (HD) downloads available as well. Unfortunately, none of these web sites support Macintosh or any browser other than Internet Explorer.
